An Evening with Devin The Dude

Devin The Dude has a way of making sure that everyone is having a good time, and lasts night show at The Bluebird Theater was certainly no exception.

Opening actsThe Coughee Brothaz and Umconscious did their best to get the sparcely filled venue groovin’ before the nights main attraction. Near the end of Umconscious, the second act, anticipation for Devin began to seep into every corner of the smoke hazed venue. From the suburban pseudo-gangsters to the entourage spilling out from the sides of the stage, everyone was more than ready for Devin to take the stage. After a short number by his posse, Devin took the stage with blunt and mic in hand. Always a crowd pleaser Devin’s set list was a well balanced mix of the lesser known new tracks from his newest and recently released LP Landing Gear, and old favorites off Jus Tryin ta Live , Waiting to Inhale, and To Tha X-treme. My favorite of which were “Lacville ’79″ and “Doobie Ashtray” which prompted the already lifted crowd to join Devin in a rocky mountain high. I always find it refreshing when an artist especially an MC delivers more than whats promised and last evenings show was just that. I knew going in that Devin was a known crowd pleaser and would play the favorites, but what I didn’t anticipate was for him to sound as perfectly poised as he does on all of his records. From beginning to end he was quintessential Devin, engaging the audience with infectious hooks and spaced out flow. Just after midnight Devin and crew bid their adieu, graciously thanked fans, and walked off stage as fans began to chant “encore”, unfortunately there would be none. No one seemed to be too bummed however, the show was just that good.

Devin The Dude’s tour continues to head east though the winter. Rmmb is looking forward to a rumored west coast spring tour, we’ll keep you posted.

FYI: If you haven’t yet picked up Devin’s newest Landing Gear, do so. Disappointment not possible.
