The Republic Tigers @ The Hi-Dive
RMMB had the pleasure of catching The Republic Tigers this Saturday at The Hi-Dive. I found their sound and presence to be quite impressing. Its always refreshing to watch a band that sounds even better live, and The Republic Tiger’s are certainly one of those kind of bands.
They have a lush sound that transcends genres, adding and subtracting with each strum and thump. Incorporating elements of both alternative rock and folk, The Republic Tigers have crafted a unique sound that both excites and soothes. One of the most interesting aspects of the Kansas City, Missouri 5-piece is their ability to fill every possible space with a collective sound. Challenging and appreciating traditional song structure give their sound an erratic simplicity.
On their album their sound is unique, meticulous, and rich. Live The Republic Tigers are all that and more, as lead singer, Kenn Jankowski pounds away at the standing drum, all members engage each other creating symphonic friction and balance. On “The drums” a song off “Keep Color” (TRT’s debut album), the versatility of using acoustic, jazz, and electric guitars is highlighted. Melodies float uptempo as drums keep a nervous pace. The Republic Tigers deliver the perfect dose of intensity and groove, giving their sound both relevance and imagination.
RMMB will keep you posted on furture tour dates. In the meantime, if you haven’t already, stream Keep Color here. Album availble now throughITunes and record store near you!

I was there with Keli for this and let me add my praise for Republic Tigers. They rocked my socks with flavors of 80s New Wave, and — at times — Interpol’s characteristic driving intensity.
The sound at Hi Dive is either good and I never noticed or has improved greatly recently. We were in the back near the soundboard and we caught all the nuances that made this show great.
