Auto-tuning, The Death Of Authenticity
Why must we be subjected to auto-tuned music?
Maybe it’s just me but the idea is absolutely ridiculous. Here you have an artist such as Kanye, or Lil Wayne grossing millions annually from record and concert sales and yet their voices have been digitally altered for listening pleasure. This means that we have no idea what the real sound actually is or more how talent these extremely boastful artist are. That being said how is it these artists continue to monopolize the top forty? Now I know that history has pretty much always favored the Billboard heavyweights even though they tend to not always be the most deserving, but at a time when the indie scene is breaking new ground, local scenes are producing national acts, and some of the most diverse music is coming to the forefront–Why are people putting up with this?
Any thoughts?
Here’s some bands that have been under my rader that, you guessed it, are NOT auto-tuned: Human Highway, As Tall As Lions, and the ever popular Kings of Leon. Check ‘em out!

Agreed. It’s a crutch used by candy-pop teen stars onstage, and it should stay there.
The United States of Electronica (Seattle) use auto tuning and it drove me nuts when I saw them. Let’s keep this stuff where it belongs: on Cher’s tour.
