COMBO Meeting Update

4131151

Last night was my first ever COMBO (Colorado Music Business Organization) meeting, and I found it extremely interesting.  The evenings guest speaker was music business expert, contributing Rolling Stone editor, and author of the new book, “Appetite For Self Destruction,” Steve Knopper.

A Colorado native himself, Steve examined the struggles facing not only the major labels but the impact of the digital revolution. Knopper pointed out the surge of digital streaming as indie bands best and most cost effective form of marketing, and I couldn’t agree more. The digital revolution has made more possible than over for the indie scene to break though in a way like never before.  Speaking from personal opinion, I think social networks such as Mypace and Facebook have created the perfect atmosphere to create buzz about up and coming bands.

I highly recommend checking out Steve’s new book for more insight of the impact of the digital revolution. Also try and check out the next COMBO meeting on February 20th, 2009 at Moe’s BBQ (right next door to the Gothic Theater.) The meetings fall on the third Sunday of the month and serve as an awesome way to stay connected with the local scene.
