Silversun Pickups have Jumped the Shark

Swoon sounds like an over-produced mess. I’m going to take some heat for that but there it is.

The new Silversun Pickups album is far too bland and flat. It’s ground the Smashing Pumpkins trod in their Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness years, but even more uninspired and cardboardy-tasting. Listen to it and tell me the drums aren’t identical to the Pumkins’, and that Brian Aubert — on Swoon anyway — has started to sound a lot like Billy Corgan.
