I’m not too fond of “The Fray”
I listened to them a couple times and find them to have a scholcky, over-processed, Velveeta-Clearchannel-ready sound. And vapid lyrics.
That said, did they actually play here in Denver when they were starting out, or are the members simply from here? In other words, did they post their own flyers on S Broadway, did they play Hi Dive, did they do any penniless summerlong tours in broken Ford vans, etc.?
I was in Seattle for the majority of the 2000s, so I don’t know. I see Fray guitarist Joe King is getting some press here. I’m interested to know if they “cut their teeth” here.

The Fray definitely played here in Colorado. Quite a few shows at Herman's, in fact, Herman's kinda launched 'em. I agree completely that their lyrics are a bit lackluster, but damn if they don't write excellent music and their live show is spectacular! I caught 'em for the first time at the Mile High Music Fest last year and they were outstanding! I used to not have much respect for 'em, but that show was incredible, absolutely incredible. And my buddy, Dan Battenhouse (also the bassist in my band), got me a backstage pass to speak with 'em, well, everyone but Joe. They are each very humble and very accesible. Some of it is the game, but most of it is very obviously just their personalities.
